The Brooklyn Nets unveiled their brand-new logo today and it’s noted that Jay-Z played a big role in the actual design. What doesn’t this guy do?
The logo is a very simple “B” in the center of a basketball using only a black and white color palette. While this design isn’t anything like groundbreaking and won’t win any awards, it definitely fit the brand they are hoping to foster.
“The Brooklyn Nets logos are another step we’ve made to usher the organization into a new era,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “The boldness of the designs demonstrate the confidence we have in our new direction. Along with our move to Brooklyn and a state-of-the-art arena, the new colors and logos are examples of our commitment to update and refine all aspects of the team.”
The logo definitely gives off a retro/old-school feel and I think that is what will make it a successful design. The color scheme (or lack thereof) pays homage to the old New York subway signage system.
The logo design process took nearly a full year. I would love to see what hit the cutting room floor.
What do you think of the new look?
